Shots were fired in Surrey on a Temple President’s son on Wednesday. According to reports, more than 14 shots were fired at the Lakshmi Narayan Temple President’s son who fortunately escaped unharmed.
Satish Kumar’s son was attacked at his personal residence in Surrey. According to Satish, the miscreants fired between 11 to 14 shots. He informed that his son had recently sold his insurance company for a huge sum of money. He suspects that this is the reason why his son may have been targeted. The assailants may been after the money.
The incident follows a disturbing rise in vandalism and attacks targeting the Hindu temples in Canada, coinciding with an increased presence of Khalistani groups. Recent incidents include vandalism at the Lakshmi Narayan temple in Surrey and the spraying of anti-India graffiti at temples in Brampton and the Greater Toronto area. These episodes follow a rise in pro-Khalistan rallies and online rhetoric demanding a referendum for a separate state for Sikhs.
No one was injured during the incident, but the residence was riddled with bullet holes. The Police remained in the area, examining the scene, speaking with witnesses and canvassing the neighbourhood for CCTV footage. The Surrey RCMP issued a statement saying that the matter is being investigated.
