Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh has expressed grief over the death of a young farmer Shubhkaran who died in the firing on the Khanauri border. Giani Raghbir Singh compared this entire incident with the atrocities committed by the British on Indians in Jallianwala Bagh. He said that this incident happening in a democratic country is condemnable.
Giani Raghbir Singh, in a post on X (formerly twitter), said that the death of a Punjabi youth and serious injuries inflicted on many others due to direct firing by the police on farmers near Khanuri is a very sad and condemnable incident. He said that these are Indian farmers who feed the country, not outsiders, whose heads and chests the government is piercing with bullets. Governments exercising their authority to stop the demonstration of farmers going to Delhi is no less than the atrocities committed by the British on Indians in Jallianwala Bagh.
Giani Raghbir Singh said that the slogan of the people of our country has been, Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, because the soldier guards the borders of the country and the farmer grows grain in the fields and feeds the country, but it is sad that today our Soldiers are getting shot while guarding the borders and our own government is shooting at farmers who are demanding their rights. This is highly reprehensible for a democratic country, he said. He further said that such an approach is not good for the future of the country.
