Social media buzzes over The Simpsons ‘prediction’ of internet shutdown on January 16; influencers warn of global outage

No internet prediction:

Social media users have shared various clips and memes highlighting these predictions. They jokingly dubbed the creators as time travellers as well. Using this factor of the show, a rumour has been spread online which claims that on an episode of The Simpsons, it is shown that the whole world will have no internet on 16th January 2025.

An edited video of the Simpsons has gone viral on social media. This video suggests that the internet shutdown would coincide with Donald Trump's inauguration, which is scheduled on 16th January.

Ankur Nandan, a social media influencer, has shared a post on Instagram, talking about the prediction. This Instagram video shared by the influencer has garnered more than 45 million views on the app.

The Simpsons had also predicted Donald Trump's death on 27th August 2020. Various posts of an image of the cartoon version of Trump lying in a coffin were spread on the social media. These images were from one of the episodes of The Simpsons. However, it turned out to be a fake image that went viral and no episode of the popular series actually predicted Donald Trump's death.
