‘Stop misusing ED and CBI’: AAP leaders stage protest in Jalandhar against BJP for Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest

Today, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has started a state level protest in Jalandhar, Punjab. Several leaders and ministers of AAP participated in the protest by carrying placards in their hands which said “stop misusing the ED and CBI”. Aam Aadmi Party leaders raised slogans against the central government. During this, they also demanded that Kejriwal should be released from jail as soon as possible.

Aam Aadmi Party raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the CBI. The protest started at around 10:30 am at the city's busiest Baba Jagjivan Ram Chowk (120 feet road).

They said that when Kejriwal got relief from the court in the liquor scam case, the ED team approached the High Court and asked for 48 hours. Following that, the CBI approached the court against Kejriwal in another case and he was arrested again. He said that this action being taken by the agencies of the BJP is condemnable.

MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who reached the protest site, levelled several accusations against the BJP saying that they knew that Arvind Kejriwal was being released from jail in the liquor scam case after which he was arrested again by the CBI in other false cases. He said that since the BJP could not defeat Kejriwal with the power of votes, now action is being taken against him with the help of agencies.

Protest against Kejriwal's arrest

This protest is being held in the case of arrest of Aam Aadmi Party supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal by the CBI. Kejriwal is currently in CBI custody. On June 25, 2024, the Delhi High Court stayed the lower court's decision to grant bail to Arvind Kejriwal.

The same night, the CBI reached Tihar Jail to question Kejriwal in connection with the corruption in the liquor policy and on the morning of 26 June, Kejriwal, who was in jail for 76 days, was re-arrested.
