In a shocking development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader & sarpanch of a Tarn Taran village Avan Kumar alias Sonu Cheema on Sunday was shot dead.  Avan Kumar alias Sonu Cheema of Adda Jhabal village in Tarn Taran was getting a haircut in a local saloon when an unknown man came and shot him twice inside the premises. Going by Sonu Cheema murder CCTV video, two unknown shooters came to kill the AAP leader. One entered the saloon and the other remained on the bike in order to flee from the spot after the murder. After Sonu Cheema was shot twice in his stomach he was rushed to Amandeep Hospital in Amritsar in critical condition. However, a few moments later, Sonu Cheema died there.

 

As per reports, salon operator Vijay narrated the incident and revealed that a man came inside and asked for hair cutting. He was said to wait for some time. After a few minutes, he opened fire on Sonu Cheema who was getting the cutting done. After firing 2 bullets the young man left the shop.

 

Tarn Taran SSP Ashwani Kapoor was quoted saying that the Sarpanch Sonu was getting cutting done at the salon at around 9 am on Sunday morning. The miscreants came inside the salon. The young man stood there for 5 minutes. Sarpanch got the cutting done. After that, he sat at the waiting area. During this time he was shot. At that time the Sarpanch's weapon was also lying in the car. Police have taken possession of CCTV.

 

As per reports, Police in their initial investigation have found out that Sonu Cheema was having a rivalry with a person named Amritpal living abroad. There are already 17-18 documents registered against him. Sonu Cheema was also threatened through social media. Notably, before 2017, Sonu Cheema had the support of Akali Dal. He joined Congress after the change of government in 2017. When the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power in 2021, he joined it.
