Curtains of cream and pink, disco lights, song and dance: the scene oozed wedding cheer until the booming bass was pierced by something louder, more sinister. A woman bent forward, bringing her hands to her face, and crumpled to the floor as her knees gave way.
Just a few moments earlier, she had been dancing. When she stopped, there had been warnings: an initial gunshot, and then that voice, that rowdy drawl: "Goli chal jaayegi."
The video, filmed in an Uttar Pradesh village on December 1, has gone viral. The dancer, 22, suffered an injury to her jaw but is said to be out of danger. Two others were injured.
