The 14-year-old cricket prodigy from Bihar broke at least 14 records when he tonked the high-on-confidence Gujarat Titans' bowlers out of the park. After the RRvsGT IPL 2025 match, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's old interview went viral on social media. While talking to Star Sports, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opened up about his cricketing journey and revealed how he started his cricket first in his hometown Samastipur and then bolstered his cricketing skills in a cricket academy in Patna. Below is what Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said-
"I started when I was a child. My father made me play cricket. For 1 or 2 years, I learned cricket at home, then I started practicing at the Cricket Academy Samastipur. When I turned 10 or 11 years old, I went to Patna for practice. I used to go and come daily from Samastipur to Patna for my cricket practice. In Patna, I used to practise at Gennex Cricket Academy. From there, I played Board Matches. My father wanted to be a cricketer, but at that time, there was no support for cricket in Bihar. Therefore, my father could not become a cricketer. He then worked hard behind me to make me a cricketer."
True Scoop visited Gennex Cricket Academy's social media page and found that the academy's page has shared Vaibhav's birthday post on their Instagram handle, calling him 'Gennex Boy'.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Family
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's coach, Manish Ojha quoted by Cricketnext, revealed that the IPL prodigy started training under him at the age of 9. Vaibhav used to make a 100-kilometer journey from Samastipur to Patna every alternate day for training.
“Vaibhav came to me when he was around nine years old. The distance from his native Samastipur to Patna is around 100 km, and he used to come to my coaching center every alternate day. Vaibhav used to start training around 7:30 am and continued till the evening, before travelling back home. He has followed this schedule for over four years," Ojha was quoted saying.
Notably, Vaibhav's father sold his farmland to fulfill his and his son's cricketing dreams. “Vaibhav kept on getting fame in Bihar, but his parents have played a huge role. His mother woke up early at 4 am and prepared food for Vaibhav. His father accompanied him to training and matches."
