According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishwakarma is regarded as the “God of creation.” It is believed that he has created the world. Mythologically, he has built Lord Krishna's Dwarika, Ravana's Lanka, the world-famous Jagannath temple in Puri, Lord Shiva's Trishul, Lord Vishnu's Sudarshana Chakra, Ravana's Pushpak Vimana and Indra's Vajra (thunderbolt).

The day is mainly celebrated by architects, carpenters, engineers, technicians, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers and craftsmen, sculptors and special pujas are organized in factories, mills and industries. The workers worship and clean their tools a day before the Vishwakarma day and give rest to their tools on this auspicious day.

Vishwakarma Jayanti or Vishwakarma Puja is largely celebrated in some states with much gusto including Karnataka, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Tripura.


Vishwakarma Day 2021: Date

This year, Vishwakarma Day would be celebrated on September 17 and the auspicious time for Sankranti puja is 1:29 pm.

The day is celebrated in India as well as Nepal. 

It falls on the 'Kanya Sankranti' of the Hindu calendar. It is generally celebrated every year on the Gregorian calendar date between 16 and 18 September.

Vishwakarma puja is also celebrated a day after Diwali, along with Govardhan Puja in October–November.
