Weather Alert: Met department issues RED Alert in 10 districts of Punjab as temperatures reach a record high

Punjab continues to suffer from a record-breaking heatwave this summer. Amidst the gusts of hot winds, Bathinda's temperature is being recorded to be the highest for four consecutive days. At the same time, there is no sign of relief in the coming days. According to the data released by the Meteorological Department on Wednesday evening, the temperature in Bathinda, Punjab was recorded to be a sizzling 46.6 °C.

According to the Meteorological Department, red alert has been issued in 10 districts of Punjab on Thursday (May 23) as temperatures are expected to exceed 45 °C today. As per the report, red alert has been issued in Punjab's Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda Barnala and Mansa.

Along with this, 13 districts of Punjab have been put on orange alert. The Met Department has advised the public to stay indoors.

According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of Western Disturbance was seen on Punjab-Haryana for the last few days resulting in a slight decrease in the maximum temperature in the state. Due to Western Disturbance, the temperature in many cities of Punjab seemed stable.

But now that the effect of Western Disturbance has reduced, the heat will start gaining momentum. From today onwards, the temperature in the cities of Punjab is expected to increase by 1 to 2 °C every day, as per the Meteorological Department.
