Who is Raman Arora, AAP MLA, who was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau?

In the latest development, the Vigilance Bureau of Punjab has recently arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raman Arora on the charges of Corruption and fraud. According to the reports, during the investigation, the officials launched a raid on his residence in Jalandhar. 

It is to be noted that Raman Arora is a sitting legislator from the Jalandhar Central constituency. 

The preliminary information by the Vigilance Bureau mentioned that MLA has been accused of several unethical and corrupt offenses, which have led to defrauding the public. Notably, Raman Arora was accompanied by several other officials. 

Who is Raman Arora?

Raman Arora is a 54-year-old politician representing the APP government and Jalandhar Central region in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. 

According to the reports, recently, Raman Arora’s security was removed by the government of Punjab. At that time, he publicly criticized the government and highlighted that he was not aware of the same earlier. 

The Details of the Case - 

The Vigilance Bureau has mentioned that Raman Arora is accused of sending fake notices to the public in collaboration with certain officials, allegedly to extort money illegally. Accordingly, the authorities have been working diligently to find his role, and this part is under serious investigation. 

How did CM Mann Respond? 

Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann has outlined that the government of Punjab under his administration will not tolerate any sort of Corruption. He also mentioned that this shows that the government will have a strict stance against Corruption. 

Notably, he was quoted saying, “Our policy on Corruption is crystal clear. Whether someone is close to us or not, no act of Corruption will be tolerated. Legal action will definitely follow.

ATP Sukhdev Vashisht case

A few days back, Punjab Vigilance had arrested Sukhdev Vashisht, an Assistant Town Planner (ATP), Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, for demanding a bribe of Rs. 30,000. VB, in their official release, stated that the accused had been deliberately delaying file approvals and extorting money from the applicants.

They informed that despite 70 percent of building maps in the area having already been approved by the MC, the aforementioned ATP Vashisht had refused to clear certain files unless bribes were paid. As per the complaint, the said ATP has demanded Rs. 30,000 to process the case. The complainants also accused him of using threats, including sealing buildings during inspections to intimidate applicants, and even said that he is not afraid of his transfer.

ATP Sukhdev Vashisht held exclusive responsibility for approving all building plans and taking action against unauthorized constructions in Jalandhar Central and Jalandhar West.
