On Tuesday, 1st October, the multinational mass media and entertainment studio, Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) announced that Tony Vinciquerra, who is the chairman and CEO of the company, will step down from the post and will be succeeded by the current COO of the company. This major leadership change will be executed next year.
Even after stepping down from his position on 2nd January 2025, Vinciquerra will not completely cut his ties with the company until the end of the next year. He will be in an advisory role as non-executive Chairman.
Tony Vinciquerra has praised the new CEO and said “He has very good EQ and IQ. He’s much smarter than I am. And much better with people than I am.”
He has thanked his higher authorities and said, “My sincere appreciation goes to Kazuo Hirai for offering me this opportunity in 2017, and to Kenichiro Yoshida and Hiroki Totoki for their leadership and unwavering trust and support over the years. I have the utmost confidence that SPE will continue to thrive in the years ahead and know that Ravi is the right leader to take SPE forward.”
Who is Ravi Ahuja?
Veteran Indian American executive Ravi Ahuja is announced as the next CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. He will be promoted as the CEO on 2nd January 2025. He is currently the Chairman of Global Television Studios and President and COO of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Ravi has completed his graduation and got his MBA degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and he has recently joined the Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board.
As the COO, he headed all production businesses for Sony Pictures Television including U.S. and international productions. He managed daily operations of SPE along with Tony Vinciquerra, SPE Chairman and CEO.
Ravi Ahuja has worked as an associate at McKinsey & Company and in investment banking. After that, he served as the CFO for Virgin Entertainment Group. Then he joined Fox Networks Group in 2007. Before joining Sony pictures entertainment, he was the president of business operations and CFO at Walt Disney Television for 3 years from 2019 to 2021.
