Congress MP of Jalandhar Santokh Singh Chaudhary died at the age of 76 after suffering a sudden heart attack. The incident took place during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Post this, Rahul Gandhi with other Congress leaders left for the hospital and on getting the news of demise, he put his Bharat Jodo Yatra at a halt for the time being.

Talking about his family Santokh Singh Chaudhary’s wife Karamjit Kaur is a former Principal of Government Sports College Jalandhar whereas his son Vikramjit Singh is the current MLA from Phillaur. Santokh Singh Chaudhary comes from a family with great political legacy. He was son of former Punjab Agriculture Minister Master Gurbanta Singh and his brother is a former local government minister named Chaudhary Jagjit Singh. His son Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary is the 16th representation in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary has been MP Jalandhar twice from the year 2014 to 2019. He in total contested seven elections which includes two Lok Sabha polls and five Vidhan Sabha elections. He contested Assembly elections in the years 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2012 and emerged as winner thrice. Apart from this, Santokh Singh Chaudhary defeated his rival Charanjit Singh Atwal of Shiromani Akali Dal with a great margin. He secured 3,85,712 votes or 37.85% of the vote share as compared to Charanjit Singh Atwal.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary was also a health freak at the age of 76. He enjoyed regular gymming, daily brisk walks as well as playing golf and reading books. He also paid great attention to his diet to lead a healthy life.
