With a few days to go for the Jalandhar West Bye-Elections 2024, all political parties have braced themselves to woo the voters. Jalandhar is witnessing multiple significant developments ahead of the West Bye Polls 2024. For instance, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann shifted his base from government's CM residence to a rented house in Jalandhar. Mann shifting to Jalandhar is considered to be a masterstroke as he has clarified that he will contribute to election campaigns and also keep a close watch on the development of Jalandhar. Talking about Jalandhar West Bye Poll's candidates, AAP has fielded Mohinder Bhagat, BJP has fielded Sheetal Angural, Congress has fielded Surinder Kaur and SAD has fielded Surjit Kaur as their candidate.
Why Mohinder Bhagat is an ideal candidate for AAP in Jalandhar West Bye Election 2024?
The Aam Aadmi Party has picked Mohinder Bhagat, 64, as its candidate for the July 10 byelection in Jalandhar West assembly constituency. Mohinder Bhagat is well aware of the Jalandhar West Constituency and the problems which need to be resolved. Mohinder Bhagat is the son of former cabinet minister and veteran BJP leader Chunni Lal Bhagat. For the unversed, in 2012, Jalandhar South underwent Boundary delimitation and Chunni Lal Bhagat successfully contested from new constituency Jalandhar West. Hence, Mohinder Bhagat is not new to the problems of Jalandhar West constituency.
Mohinder Bhagat's image in Punjab political fraternity is considered- soft spoken & positive. AAP's Jalandhar West candidate has remained away from controversies and criminal cases unlike his competitors including Sheetal Angural. Notably, BJP's candidate Sheetal Angural embroiled in multiple controversies including his name being linked to drug trafficiking & extortion.
Despite the fact Sheetal Angural was MLA from Jalandhar West constituency, Mohinder Bhagat met Punjab leadership and talked about development of the constituency. Notably, Mohinder Bhagat unsuccessfully contested the assembly elections from the constituency as a BJP candidate in 2022. However, when there was an AAP wave in Punjab, Bhagat displayed a strong performance in the elections.
