In a big jolt to AAP National Convenor, Delhi High Court on Friday put a halt on Arvind Kejriwal's bail granted by the Rouse Avenue Court. The Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam case. Before the trial court (Rouse Avenue) on Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sought a 48-hour deferral in signing the bail bond following the pronouncement of the order. However, the trial court firmly denied the ED's plea for a stay on the order. As a result, the ED had approached Delhi High Court over the matter. Now, the question arises why did the Delhi High Court halt Arvind Kejriwal's bail order? Below is what ED said to Delhi HC-
On behalf of the ED, ASG SV Raju moved a plea to a vacation bench of Justices Sudhir Kumar Jain and Ravinder Dudeja which reads, "I am moving for an urgent stay. The order was pronounced yesterday at 8. The order is not uploaded. We were not given a clear opportunity to oppose bail."
"...My prayer for stay on the bail order wasn't even considered. I am demanding that the order be stayed and the matter be heard as soon as possible. We were denied the full opportunity to argue the case. I am making allegations with full seriousness," the ASG further said.
Although Kejriwal's legal team led by Singhvi argued against it, the Delhi High Court after hearing the counsel directed that the bail order should not be given effect until the Court hears the matter.
The Court said, "The bail order will not be given effect. We have not passed the final order. You may argue for as much as you can."
Arvind Kejriwal's bail controversy
For the unversed, the trial court had on Thursday granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal. As per reports, Vacation Judge Niyay Bindu had ordered Arvind Kejriwal's release on a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh. In response, the ED had asked the court to stay AAP National Convenor's release for 48 hours but the judge had refused the request as mentioned above.
