A 38-year-old woman and her daughter in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area were brutally assaulted and thrashed by a group of four men with iron rods and sticks, the police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place November 19 in a residential colony at night in Shalimar Bagh. The incident has been captured on a CCTV camera that shows a woman parking her car and her daughter stepping out of it. In no time, two women arrive at the spot and start physically assaulting the woman’s daughter. When her mother tries to intervene, two men start punching, kicking and ruthlessly beating her with sticks in the parking space.

The woman and her daughter were hospitalised after the attack and after recovering the woman had filed a complaint with the police. They were discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.

The woman in her statement accused that the attack was planned by supporters of AAP MLA Bandana Kumari, however, the politician has denied the claims. "All these allegations are baseless... She (victim) lives in my neighbourhood and this has been her nature, she keeps accusing me every time. I have no connection with her or this case," Bandana Kumari told news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, the police say that the two women who were seen in the CCTV footage have been arrested while the search for the other two assaulters is on. "Based on the CCTV footage, two women Megha (22) and Neha (20) were arrested and efforts are being made to nab the remaining two accused and proceedings for non-bailable warrants against the accused have already been initiated," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Usha Rangnani said.

"On the night of November 19, I along with my daughter were attacked by people known to AAP MLA Bandana Kumari. The attack was carried out as I had filed an FIR against the MLA's husband in 2019. Based on the woman’s complaint, the police have registered an FIR under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person), 379 (theft), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
