The world, annually, celebrates ‘World Tourism Day’ to highlight the unique role of the tourism sector in preserving cultural and natural heritage across the world. World tourism day is celebrated on September 27, every year. 

Tourism is one of the most hit sectors because of the global pandemic Covid-19, however, the tourism department has opened the routes towards many travelling destinations with all Covid related protocols, including wearing a face mask and following social distancing.

The UN said, “Tourism is a recognized pillar of most – if not all – the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs), particularly Goals 1 (no poverty), 5 (gender equality), 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 10 (reduce inequalities).” 


World Tourism Day 2021: Theme

The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has announced this year’s theme, in 2021 day would focus on the theme – “Tourism for Inclusive Growth.”

As per the UN, “The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive social and economic impact. Both developed and developing economies have been hit. And marginalized groups and the most vulnerable have been hit hardest of all. The restart of tourism will help kick-start recovery and growth. The benefits this will bring must be enjoyed widely and fairly.”

World Tourism Day 2021: Impact of Covid-19 on Tourism

UN suggests that the Covid-19 has mostly impacted the developing countries. The official website of the United Nations read, “The impact of COVID-19 on tourism will cost the world economy 4 trillion dollars. Developing countries will be among the most affected ones.”
