New Zealand on Wednesday became the first World Test Championship winners after they defeated India by eight wickets in a low-scoring and close final in Southampton, England.

Notably, this is New Zealand’s second ICC Trophy in cricket history.

In the WTC Final Reserve Day match, New Zealand had to chase the target score of 139 in 53 overs against India.

New Zealand players Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor threw superb knocks to clinch the title of World Test Champions by defeating India by 8 wickets at the Ageas Bowl on Day 6.

Notably, the WTC series took off amid the bad weather and rain throughout the match. Due to weather conditions, no single ball was played by the cricketers in the field on Day 1 and Day 4, observing which a reserve day was fixed.

In the WTC Final match on June 23, the Indian team executed well performance in the first session which put the ball in their court. However, in their second innings, Captain Virat Kohli led the Indian cricket team could only set a target of 170 after resuming on their overnight score of 64 for 2.

In the final match against New Zealand, the Indian team could only add 106 runs to their score on Day 6 and lost 8 wickets in just under 2 sessions, thus making them away to grab the ICC y trophy.
