Jalandhar: In a tragic accident near the TV Center, close to a hospital in Jalandhar, two young men lost their lives when their Activa scooter was hit by a car and subsequently run over by a pickup truck. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Pankaj Nijatma and 30-year-old Mohit, both residents of Basti No. 9.
According to ACP Nirmal, the accident occurred at around 2:15 a.m. when a car struck the Activa from the side, causing both riders to fall onto the road. Moments later, a Mahindra pickup truck loaded with vegetables, which was following the scooter, ran over them, leading to their immediate death. The police have registered a case at Police Station No. 4 based on the statements of the victims’ families.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Pankaj and 31-year-old Mohit, both residents of Nizatma Nagar. Their sudden demise has left their families in deep sorrow, with grieving relatives struggling to come to terms with the loss. Reports indicate that the fathers of both victims run a sports business in the city.
Family members revealed that Pankaj and Mohit, along with two other friends, were returning from a birthday party around 1:30 a.m. When they reached Sharanjit Hospital, a black car allegedly hit their scooter, and the pickup truck dragged them along the road.
Pankaj had been married just three months ago, while Mohit was his parents’ only son. Mohit’s family owns “Mohit Sports,” a sports shop in Basti No. 9, whereas Pankaj’s father operates an import-export business in Nijatma Nagar.
So far, no arrests have been made in the case. The police have seized the pickup truck involved in the accident and are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify the black car and gather more evidence.
Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the scene and took custody of the bodies. The remains were then transferred to the mortuary of the civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
