The meeting also comes in response to a request from the Allahabad High Court to postpone the state elections due to the threat of a third wave of covid infection likely to be triggered by Omicron.

So far, India has reported 150 cases of the Omicron variant, following which AIIMS chief Randeep Guleria has issued concern and said that “we need to monitor it closely and be prepared for any eventuality.”
