The controversy surrounding the recently released movie Jaat has intensified in Punjab. After a two-day ultimatum from a Christian group, an FIR has been filed against Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and other actors and makers of the action-packed movie. The FIR against the Jaat team has been filed over hurting religious sentiments. For those who are unaware, the Christian community in Jalandhar demanded a ban on the movie and warned about major protests if no action is taken by the Police. The group had outlined a particular scene in the movie where Randeep Hooda was seen standing on the table of a Church.
As the two-day ultimatum concluded, a case has been filed against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar, director Gopi Chand, and producer Naveen Malineni at Jalandhar's Sadar police station. The film Jaat was released in theatres on April 10. Randeep Hooda is a resident of Rohtak, Haryana. A few days ago, he had come to Rohtak for the promotion of the film.
Why is the Christian group angry over the movie Jaat?
Christian community leader Viklaav Goldie had given a complaint to the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police on April 15. He had said that a few days ago, the film Jaat was released in theatres. 'In the film, Randeep Hooda disrespected our Jesus Christ and the holy things used in our religion. Randeep Hooda was standing inside the church like Lord Jesus Christ, and our word Amen was disrespected," Goldie's complaint said.
He said that it was also said in the film that 'your Lord Jesus Christ is sleeping, and he has sent me. In such a situation, those who are anti-Christ will watch such films and attack our churches. Seeing this, there is anger among the Christian community living in the country and abroad.'
In the meanwhile, after the success of Jaat at the box office, Sunny Deol announced Jaat 2. Jaat features Sunny Deol as Baldev Pratap Singh ("Jaat"), Randeep Hooda as Ranatunga (a former Deputy Commander of the Jaffna Tiger Force, who terrorises the villagers), Regina Cassandra as Bharathi, Saiyami Kher as SI Vijaya Lakshmi, Vineet Kumar Singh as Somulu and more in the key roles.
