During recent times, India has been witnessing intense heat, especially the state of Punjab which was witnessing scorching heat. Recently, according to certain reports, the city of Ludhiana has broken several heat records this year. Notably, Ludhiana’s highest temperature reached up to 43°C. However, the lowest temperature remained at 30.6°C - which led to breaking of a 55-year-old temperature record.
The experts mentioned that Ludhiana reported the highest minimum temperature since 1970.
For the southern regions of the city, the authorities issued an orange alert and a yellow alert was issued for the central areas. Along with this, the Meteorology experts have outlined that people must avoid direct sunlight.
The temperature in Punjab has been getting intensified and notably the temperature mark has reached up to 45°C in most of the regions. Generally, Bathinda is considered to be the hottest region of Punjab but this time Ludhiana’s high temperature has surpassed Bathinda.
According to the reports, the normal nighttime temperature has gone up to 7.5°C - which is higher than the usual levels.
The maximum temperature in Ludhiana reached 43°C with a minimum of 30.6°C which Pawneet Kaur Kingra, Meteorologist, explained is a new record. She said it is higher than any previous level recorded in the last 55 years. She expected that central areas would remain on yellow alert and that yellow alert would apply to the south during the next few days. Dr. Tan stressed that we need to watch out for our safety, avoid strong sunlight and care for ourselves and our children and elder family members since they should not be outside in the middle of the day.
