From heatwave to rain: IMD predicts big weather shift in Punjab: See weekend forecast

According to the reports by the Indian Meteorological Department, IMD, the temperature across various regions of the state has been going above 40°C, as Samrala’s temperature went up to 40.6°C on May 27.

The state of Punjab has been dealing with intense and scorching heat. The temperature across the state has reached extreme high and has been easily touching the bar of 40°C during the peak hours of the day. 

According to the reports by the Indian Meteorological Department, IMD, the temperature across various regions of the state has been going above 40°C, as Samrala’s temperature went up to 40.6°C on May 27. 

However, it has been reported that certain regions of Punjab will be witnessing rainfall during this weekend also, starting from May 29, 2025, Thursday. IMD has predicted that Thursday evening will bring relief to the heatwaves in almost every region of the state. 

Orange and Yellow Alert - 

Accordingly, IMD has issued yellow and orange rain alerts across various regions of Mohali for May 29 and May 30. The meteorological department has outlined that the regions with orange alerts will witness wind speeds around 50 to 60 km/h, along with thunderstorms and lightning. 

The explained weather forecast for May 29 and the upcoming days is as follows - 

May 29, 2025, Thursday

According to the prediction by IMD, light to moderate rainfall is predicted in regions including Bathinda, Barnala, Faridkot, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Muktsar, Moga, Mansa, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Nawanshahar and SAS Nagar (Mohali). 

Whereas the other regions of Punjab will be dealing with moderate to high rainfall. The regions that fall under this category are Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Taran Tarn, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, and Pathankot. 

May 30, 2025, Friday

It has been predicted that Friday will bring heat to this increasing temperature as the majority of the regions of Punjab will be witnessing heavy rainfall. The region-wise update about rainfall is as follows -

The regions that will witness less rainfall - are Muktsar and, Fazilka; whereas the regions that will be witnessing light to moderate rainfall are Amritsar, Taran Tarn, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Barnala, Bathinda, Moga, and Mansa. 

Along with this, the regions to witness moderate to heavy rainfall include - Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahar, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur and Patiala. 

May 31, 2025, Saturday 

May 31 will come with less or isolated rainfall. Reportedly, the majority of the regions of Punjab will not be witnessing rainfall; however, some might see less to no rainfall. The regions that might witness rainfall (isolated or less) are Amritsar, Taran Tarn, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Nawanshahar, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar (Mohali) and Patiala.
