Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, has openly criticized Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) over the prolonged delay in the delivery of the Tejas fighter jets. Expressing his dissatisfaction, he stated that he does not currently have confidence in HAL’s ability to meet deadlines.

Speaking at the Aero India show, Air Chief Marshal Singh conveyed his concerns directly to HAL officials, emphasizing that the delay in fighter jet production is a serious issue that needs immediate resolution. He stressed that systemic changes within HAL are necessary to address inefficiencies and ensure timely aircraft deliveries.

The delay in the Indigenous Tejas fighter jet program has been a persistent challenge for the IAF, which is in urgent need of modern aircraft to replace its aging fleet. The IAF Chief’s remark highlights growing frustration with the defense establishment regarding HAL’s performances and the broader impact it has on India’s defense preparedness.

“Hal is not trusted”

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh told HAL officials he did not trust the company. He said that when they talk to HAL about their needs, they always hear that "it will be done, we will do it" but this situation is very bad. The Air Chief said, "HAL is our own company. We have worked there but I think we are not in mission mode." He said that everyone should understand their responsibility and not take it lightly.

“The system needs change”

AP Singh also said that he was promised delivery of 11 Tejas aircraft in February, but the delivery has not been done. He also stressed that we need a change in the system so that such issues can be avoided in the future. He said that many things are wrong and if one finger is pointed, three fingers follow.
