Khadoor Sahib MP & Khalistani Amritpal's parole application for taking oath reaches LS speaker

The Punjab government has sent an application to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on behalf of Khadoor Sahib MP and Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh.

The Punjab government has sent an application to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on behalf of Khadoor Sahib MP and Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh regarding his swearing into the office. An application for parole was sent to Amritsar District Commissioner (DC) on behalf of the family. Taking action on which, the Punjab government has sent an application to the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Amritpal Singh's lawyer and former MP Rajdev Singh Khalsa said that an application for parole was given to Amritsar DC because the case is registered against Amritpal Singh under the National Security Act (NSA) in Amritsar. Subsequently this application was sent to the Punjab Home Department, which took action on it and sent the application to the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Oath has to be taken within 60 days

Khalsa said that an elected member has 60 days to take oath or else the parliamentary membership can be revoked. As far as we know, the Lok Sabha Speaker has not yet taken any action on the application. After the order of Amritpal Singh's name and time as a parliamentarian from the Lok Sabha, he will be given one day parole for the fixed time.

Amritpal’s NSA extended till 2025

Rajdev Khalsa said that Amritpal and his associates have been kept in jail without FIR. Now according to the new order, the period of NSA on Amritpal has been extended for one year till April 23, 2025. The public has made Amritpal win with such a huge lead. In such a situation, this decision of the government is against the public.

Amritpal’s Lok Sabha election victory

Amritpal Singh, a resident of Jallupur Kheda village, about 40 km from Amritsar, is the chief of Waris Punjab De organization. He became MP from Khadoor Sahib seat by defeating Congress's Kulbir Singh Zira. On 23 February 2023, a crowd of thousands of people under the leadership of Amritpal Singh entered Ajnala police station in Amritsar.

Following the attack on the police station, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. On March 18, Amritpal left home and absconded. The police along with the investigating agencies kept searching for him for a month finally leading to his arrest in Moga on 23 April

Since then, Amritpal has been lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam. The National Security Act (NSA) has been imposed on him for supporting anti-nationalist ideologies. Amritpal did not get permission to come out of jail for campaigning, in spite of which he received more than 4 lakh votes, winning the contest by a historic margin.
