The Indian Meteorological Department, which is generally abbreviated as IMD, has predicted that the monsoon will soon be knocking on the door of Punjab, bringing relief to the intense heat. The weather tracker has announced that the monsoon has currently touched the skies of Rajasthan and is now moving towards Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
It is to be reported that a yellow alert has been issued for certain regions of Punjab.
The reports by IMD have revealed that in the last 24 hours, the average maximum temperature in Punjab has increased by around 0.6°C; however, it is to be noted that the temperature across the state remained around ‘normal.’ Reportedly, the highest temperature across the state was reported in Bathinda, i.e. 40°C. Besides this, the temperature across various cities, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Faridkot, has remained more than 36°C.
On June 20 as well a slight increase in temperature was reported, but recent prediction has revealed that the next 24 hours will bring a decline of around 2 to 3°C.
June 2025 witnessed around 40 percent less rainfall -
The Meteorological Department has revealed that Punjab has received an average of 26.65 mm of rain between June 1 and June 19, 2025 - which is considerably lesser than the normal average, which is around 45 to 55 mm, recording 40% less rain this year.
This decline in rain has raised concerns among farmers, as less rain can cause damage to crops.
Storm Warning -
According to the IMD, Punjab will witness storms, lightning, and heavy rainfall for the next four days, i.e., from June 20, 2025, and June 23, 2025.
June 20 - A yellow alert of storm and lightning has been issued across several regions, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala.
June 21 - Strong winds, lightning, and heavy rains have been predicted in several regions, including Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Amritsar, Sangrur, Rupnagar, and Mansa.
June 22 - Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Amritsar, Sangrur, Rupnagar, and Mansa will continue to experience light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms.
June 23 - Warning across various states will continue as the monsoon will remain active.
Weather in major cities of Punjab -
Jalandhar - There will be light clouds with partial sunshine. The temperature can remain between 28 to 32 degrees.
Amritsar - There will be light clouds, and the sun will come out partially. The temperature can remain between 30 to 35 degrees.
Mohali - There are chances of rain, along with cloudy weather. The temperature can remain between 27 to 33 degrees.
Ludhiana - There will be light clouds, and a partial sun will be seen. The temperature can remain between 28 to 35 degrees.
Patiala - There will be partial clouds and sun. The temperature can remain between 27 to 33 degrees.
