Passport application services will get shut in India from 8 pm on 29th August to 6 am on 2nd September. No more appointments for new passports will be available for these 5 days. Anyone who has got their appointment scheduled between 30th August to 2nd September, their appointments will get rescheduled.
People will not be allowed to apply for any new application during these 5 days. The passport department has informed that due to some technical issues, the passport department portal will remain closed for this period of time.
The Passport Service also known as ‘Passport Seva’ is a unit of the Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs. It is the passport issuing authority and is responsible for issuing Indian passports on application to all eligible Indian citizens in the country. Indian passports are issued at 93 passport offices located across different states in India and at 197 Indian diplomatic missions abroad.
The passport seva portal will get shut for technical maintenance. All the appointments of 30th August are cancelled. Applicants who have got their appointments confirmed on 30th August, will get further notified about their appointment via SMS.
This issue will affect the work at the Passport service center, the regional passport office, police verification of applicants and the Ministry of External Affairs. As the passport service applications will remain closed for 5 days, this will not only affect the applicants from Delhi but also affect the applicants of other states across the country.
The passport department has said that the applicants who have applied for the online appointment during this period of 5 days, they do not need to take a new appointment as they will be able to simply reschedule their appointments. However, people will no be able to apply for any new appointment during these 5 days.
In general, the processing times for all passport services are between 5-8 working days. But due to the technical maintenance issue, appointments have got cancelled for 5 days in the country. However, the appointments will get rescheduled as soon as the technical problem gets resolved.
