Kapurthala Police conducted a dope test of Nihang Ramandeep Singh Mangu Math, who killed a youth in Gurdwara Sahib in Phagwara of Kapurthala district, at the Civil Hospital. According to reports, drugs were found in Mangu's blood. Mangu had cut the young man with a sharp weapon at around 3 am on Tuesday, January 16. 9 FIRs are registered against him in different police stations of Ludhiana. A year ago he had cut off the hand of a Nihang with a sword in Amritsar.

Doctors found traces of buprenorphine, benzodiazepine and morphine in his blood sample. Buprenorphine and Morphine are commonly used opiates (poppy). Benzodiazepine is a medication used to slow down brain activity, commonly used to treat anxiety and panic attacks. The Nihang killed the youth on Tuesday for allegedly trying to commit sacrilege in Gurudwara. He uploaded a video of him commiting the act, following which he was arrested by the police.

ADGP Gurinder Dhillon said that Mangu Math had murdered the youth solely for publicity. He is a professional criminal and no sacrilege was found to be commited in the Gurudwara Sahib. The source of income of the accused is also suspicious, which is being investigated thoroughly. According to investigation, he collects funds by posting controversial videos on social media and is a criminal minded person. ADGP said that the murderer’s motives have nothing to do with religion. He is also wearing Nihang's baana (dress) only for the sake of publicity. The murderer did not kill the young man in self-defense. The police is now preparing a plan to amend the sections under which the accused is incriminated.
