Jalandhar, February 21: The city of Jalandhar celebrated Punjabi Mother Language Day with great enthusiasm today. The Punjabi Jagriti Manch organized a vibrant Punjabi Jagriti March to promote and preserve the Punjabi language. The march began from Lyallpur Khalsa School on Nakodar Road and concluded at Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall, passing through various city areas.
Prominent leaders, including Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab President Aman Arora, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Rajwinder Kaur Thiada, MLA Raman Arora, Mayor Vineet Dhir, and Deputy Mayor Malkit Singh, participated in the march led by Manch Secretary and Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board Advisor, Deepak Bali. Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal also attended the event.
The cultural segment of the event saw renowned singers Gurnam Bhullar, Kamal Heer, Jazzy B, Preet Harpal, and Dalwinder Dayalpuri captivating the audience, especially school students, with their energetic performances.
Addressing the gathering, Aman Arora congratulated Deepak Bali for organizing the awareness march and lauded his dedication to promoting the Punjabi language and culture. He urged people to prioritize their mother tongue, Punjabi, in daily life. Arora emphasized the Punjab government’s commitment to promoting the Punjabi language and encouraged parents and children to converse in Punjabi at home while respecting all languages.
Deepak Bali highlighted the need for widespread promotion of Punjabi and stressed making the language mandatory in educational institutions. He called on society to contribute to this cause, suggesting that Punjabi Mother Language Day be celebrated as a festival. “A person’s identity is deeply rooted in their mother tongue. While learning other languages is important, one should never neglect their native language,” Bali added.
The march aimed to ensure that future generations remain connected to their mother tongue. Participants included students from various schools and representatives of voluntary organizations.
The event concluded with gratitude extended to all guests and participants, reflecting a collective commitment to preserving the Punjabi language and culture.
