Scorching heat grips Punjab; light rain brings brief relief in North & East India

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has noted that nowadays the maximum temperature is around 4-6°C above normal.

Rapid weather changes could be seen in Punjab and several other states of India. Recently, the majority of the regions of the nation have been experiencing intense heat and heat waves - which is not usually witnessed in April. 

Accordingly, the temperature has been increasing very quickly, including various parts of Punjab and Delhi-NCR. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has noted that nowadays the maximum temperature is around 4-6°C above normal. 

The latest update by the IMD has suggested that several cities of North India and Punjab, will witness light showers on April 11, Friday - which might bring relief from the ongoing heat. 

Apart from Punjab, light to moderate rainfall is expected to fall in several regions including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe, Telangana, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and central India. Expectedly, the wind speed will be around 40-50 km/h. 

Rain Forecast in Northern India - 

As per the reports by IMD, states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal will receive rain from April 10 to April 13. 

However, weather will worsen in Rajasthan, especially the cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner. According to reports, the temperature may soar up to 40-42°C. Besides this, the temperature will also increase in states including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. The temperature has already reached up to 44-46°C. Kandla (Gujarat) recorded the highest temperature in North India at 45.6°C, while Ratlam (MP) reached 44.2°C. Barmer in Rajasthan hit 46.5°C, Pilani recorded 44°C, and Maharashtra's Akola and Jalgaon logged 43.7°C.
