Stormy weather continues in Delhi-NCR, trees uprooted & traffic affected: IMD issues ALERT

According to the reports, the Noida region saw heavy rainfall accompanied by heavy and dusty winds, which also resulted in massive damage in multiple sectors.

The Delhi and NCR region has again witnessed harsh and turbulent weather for the third consecutive day on Saturday. Cities like Ghaziabad, Delhi, and Noida saw dust storms and strong winds, and the weather was intense, which led to uprooted trees, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted traffic in several areas. 

According to the reports, the Noida region saw heavy rainfall accompanied by heavy and dusty winds, which also resulted in massive damage in multiple sectors. Apart from this, the Ashok Nagar station witnessed several instances of structural damage, and the storm collapsed the traffic light pole. 

Besides this, various parts of the national capital, New Delhi, also witnessed damage in several areas, such as Connaught Place, which saw an uprooted tree near PVR Plaza following heavy rain and thunderstorms. 

According to the prediction by the Indian Meteorological Department, IMD, Delhi reportedly saw rain and thunderstorms; however, the temperature was as high as 42 degrees Celsius. Along with this, an alert was issued by the weather department at around 3:30 pm on Saturday stating that the various regions of Delhi and the NCR region will witness light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning. Gusty and dusty winds with an approximate speed of 40 to 60 kmph were also forecasted.

This weather disturbance and turbulence have been reported in the national capital and the nearby region since Thursday. It has been reported that these gusty winds are advected from North Pakistan towards Delhi-NCR, Punjab, and Haryana. 

Temperature still remains high!

According to the IMD, the temperature in the regions remained high despite heavy rains and gusty winds. Delhi reported 42.3 degrees Celsius, Aya Nagar reported 44 degrees Celsius, and Ridge and Palam reported 43.2 and 43.3 degrees Celsius, respectively. 

Sharp rise in the pollution levels - 

With the thunderstorm and rainfall, the pollution levels of the region also increased sharply. Following this, the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) imposed Stage 1 measures of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on May 15, 2025.
