In a massive development, BCCI on Saturday announced Team India's squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. BCCI exuded its confidence in T20 World Cup 2024 winning captain Rohit Sharma and named him skipper of the squad. On the other hand, Shubman Gill was named as his deputy. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami has got a chance in the team after a year. Shami has been out of the team since November 2023 due to an injury.
Rohit and selector Ajit Agarkar gave information about the 15-member squad at the Wankhede Stadium. The same team will also play in the ODI series against England. 4 all-rounders have got a place in the team. On this, Rohit told the media that such options are good for us, who can bowl and also bat when needed.
When asked about the new rules of BCCI, Rohit said, "I have played a lot of cricket. I have been playing with white ball, red ball. As far as domestic cricket is concerned, I will play Ranji Trophy."
The Champions Trophy will be held in 4 cities in Pakistan and UAE from 19 February to 9 March. These include Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Dubai. All the matches of the Indian team will be played in Dubai. India will face Pakistan on 23 February in Dubai.
Notably, before the announcement, there were reports that BCCI may look into Sanju Samson's name who is in tremendous form. However, Samson did not play Vijay Hazare trophy for Kerala.
